Yesterday, Heidi and Tami came over and we turned 2 1/2 bushels of apples in to applesauce! The weather was perfect: no humidity and cool. Josh was a great help! Since I love to take pictures, I thought I'd share some from our day.

The apples...I think they are called Lowdie...not sure on the spelling.
It's crazy how much sugar these apples need! That's why I'm going to do another bushel in the fall that don't require much sugar.
The machine that makes the whole process a lot easier!! As soon as Josh saw this contraption, he was intrigued and wanted to help. Anything that has a crank will get him interested. He also has such a fascination with being able to watch something move through a mechanism. So, this was definitely up his alley!
He cranked and cranked and cranked the handle on that machine all day!!
Tami chopping up the apples.

The apples boiling...
Josh also enjoyed adding the sugar to the sauce
And he continued to work like a trooper...
This is what Darci did while we were all working....sigh....oh well, maybe next year she'll show some interest in helping.
Here are just some pictures I took when we were done or while we were working....

those are some great, fun pics, rebekah!! faye loves her johnny jump up, too. i'm glad to know someone else uses it at 3 months. (it suggests more like 6 months, but by then my kids are so big i'm afraid they'll pull the trim down!
rebekah, now i hope you understand why i didn:t want you taking pictures of me...it makes me cringe. im still trying to figure out why i thought i had to come dressed as though we were going to paint houses and heidi looks so beautiful in all the pictures. sigh. oh well...at least the applesauce turned out good...or at least i hope it did! i:m counting on heidi and your tastebuds. ;) love ya!
So fun for you to make applesauce together! I wish I could have been there, too.
Tami, I was just showing these pictures to Grandma and fussing about how thin your face is and how beautiful you look. Silly you - saying you look bad compared to Heidi. You both look beautiful - as you always do!
Love,
Aunt Pam
Looks like such fun! Wish my sisters lived closer to me so I could do something like this with them. You are blessed to have each other so close!
great pictures of the day bek...even though it looks like all I did was play with the kids instead of work. You should of gotten an action photo of me tasting all the applesauce since that's another thing I did all day. Yumm! - Heidi
I echo anon.'s comment...I just bought some Lodi apples today to do sauce. It's times like this that is hard to live 800 miles away from my family! Your pics remind me of the times when my whole family (and that is a lot of people!) would get together to do applesauce and corn. Good memories.
Great pictures!
That little Aria is growing so much..little beauty :)
I had no idea that people still made applesauce. I remember making it when I was little. I thought applesauce making went out with black and white TV, the Nixon administration, and the Cosby show.
well, i guess making applesauce is still "in" as far as the inoues are concerned...but then again, we still watch the cosby show. just wait until the pictures post when we make corn!!! it's going to be wild with excitement...i know you're jealous of our "hip" lifestyle. wow, did I just use the word "hip" as though it's supposed to be cool?!
well, you'll need to excuse me now as i need to go put on my bonnet and churn the butter. :)
Tam, you are the funniest person alive! I love it, because if you did have a bonnet and a butter churner, you would be out there churning your butter. I can just see it in your I Love NY T-with a 'hip' bonnet. - Heidi
How FUN!!! Tami- you look great!!!!
The kids look like they were having fun too.
How fun! Looks like a blast! I love homemade applesauce! It's the best EVER! Andy's mom and my mom both still make applesauce, too. Hopefully I can help them both this year!
BTW...I think it's "hip." Yes, it IS the "COOL" thing to do...And I would love to help Tami churn the butter...I really would!(haha);)

Yeah, keep making applesauce Laura Ingalls Wilder. Pa is out plowing the field with the new oxen, before he pulls out his fiddle tonight.
Oh I guess Pa is probably crusing in his Mercedes around Tokyo.
Heidi and I were just talking on Wednesday about how impressed we were with you and your domestic skills! :)
I love ya! :)
Rebekah,
I love this post & I am jealous in a good way :)!!! Love, J
