Well, HONEST TO PETE!!!

The title of this post is how I feel about the story I'm about to tell you. Brace yourself, it's a crazy but TRUE story. I don't know everyone who reads my blog so if I accidentally squash anybody's toes...sorry. How many of you love good ice cream? I DO!!! I DO!!!!

How many of you like Ben and Jerry's ice cream? I DO!!!

How many of you would like to eat ice cream made with human breast milk? I D.... HUH?!?

That's right! PETA has recently suggested to Ben and Jerry's that they quit using cow's milk to make their ice cream and switch to breast milk. A scientist in Switzerland recently has done this and so now they are excited to see Ben and Jerry's do the same. PETA's Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said, "The fact that human adults consume huge quantities of dairy products made from milk that was meant for a baby cow just doesn't make sense. Everyone knows that 'the breast is best,' so Ben & Jerry's could do consumers and cows a big favor by making the switch to breast milk."

I'm SORRY...but I think the ideas is rather disgusting. I'm curious what Ben and Jerry's little cartons would look like if they made the switch...the cow would be out of the pasture and I guess we'd have a little drawing of a happy woman sitting next to her pump? GAG!!!

So, sorry if I've made any readers angry who think this idea sounds delicious.

What do you think? Would you buy Ben and Jerry's if they made the switch?

That is crazy, Rebekah. Sadly, my new home (Switzerland) seems to like the idea. Well, its not exactly mainstream yet, but there was a restaurant owner recently that was trying to serve breast-milk in his dishes at his restaurant. Thankfully he got shut down, but he was outraged about it. We were like, "this is crazy!"

Oh and I've been waiting, ever so patiently (well maybe not so patiently) for precious halloween pics of my niece and nephew....please!!!????

wow. i can hardly come up with words to express the nasty horror that is within my soul. NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I think PETA is absolutely ludicrous in SOOOOO many areas and chalk another one up for their craziness.
Yuck...
oh, and the picture idea cracked me up. i can imagine a woman by her pump...smiling with a big thumbs up.
one thing good from obama winning? i'm going to have a blast blaming everything on him...so, i'm sure this is somehow obama's fault. :)i haven't quite figured out how it is yet, but i figure, if the nation can blame a hurricane on president bush, i can somehow blam this ice cream fiasco on obama. :)

HOLY COW! That is disgusting. Seriously, they can't possibly think that any sane human would drink another woman's breast milk ice cream!! I am not a big fan of straight up cows milk (I prefer rice milk myself), but I LOVE ice cream!!!
So what, women start pumping and selling their milk? Oh...I can't think about it. *shudder* New topic PLEASE!!

I am trying to wrap my brain around this...would they just hire nursing moms to squeeze out a little extra and baggy it up (there is a lawsuit waiting to happen) or would they have women in thier factories pumping away??Crazy, crazy!! PETA needs to get a grip!!

Too funny!

Okay, so now the funny thing is...I was nursing Calvin while I was reading this and I thought, what a great way for me to make some extra money on the side!! Doesn't mean I would eat it though....

Hey Hey hey hey, I think everyone is putting the cart in front the horse here. I haven't tasted breast milk in 24 years, so I have no idea what it tastes like. It might not be so bad. Plus I guarantee no one here has had breast milk ice cream, so I think we just need to chill out think rationally and quit drinking that hater-ade.

I just did a little research in the dairy cow department online for fun...an average cow can produce about 5 gallons of milk a day. I think the math alone is killing this idea...last time I checked I was able to pump like 6 oz. for my child so I could go on a date night. I'm seeing women in third world countries pumping and giving up the milk that should be going to "children" in orphanages...not ice cream if you're going to do anything with it. Plus, why not switch to responsible milk production or something trendy like that where the cow can feed her offspring...and then go to the milk barn.

Another thought is, we don't normally get diseases from another species...but you can from your own. So, I'm sure they would pasteurize the stuff...but their is human cytoplasm in breast milk...your ingesting a part of someone else's cells. If it's your own child...ok..another little baby...ok...ice cream?

If you want to donate your milk to something...you can give it to a milk bank and it helps little premature babies thrive better when there own mama's can't pump.
Now that's what I'm talking about...should we let PETA know that there is a human need for the stuff beyond our haughty ideas of justice to all living things?

What a post...sorry my commnet got soooo long. =o)

That is just sick. Although I might be able to give a cow a run for her money in the milk producing department. I was getting out 25-30 ounces every time I pumped with Levi. Hmmm...let me know what the outcome of this is, I may have found my calling in life. :P

I also agree that it is a law suit waiting to happen...

I would not buy it or even taste it...NO way. Absolutely disgusting!! :)

Wow! That's gross! Not sure why drinking cow's breast milk seems better, but ewwwww!

You all will think that I'm crazy, but I would probably try it. Honestly, it sort of makes sense, doesn't it? I would assume that it would have to be pasteurized like cow's milk. If we are willing to eat something produced by an animal, why wouldn't we taste something produced by a human? However, I think it's not likely to happen because people seem to be grossed out by it and it would probably be a legal mess. Sorry, I guess that I'm strange. :)

oh my word. that sounds SO gross. :( if i try to distance myself and look at it logically, sure, cow's milk is for cows, but i'd rather drink/eat cows milk than milk from some random human. plus, cows aren't thinking, and who knows what a human would do. (yes, as i now read other comments-a lawsuit waiting to happen.) and i don't think it's about the taste. i've heard breast milk is very sweet, but it's the IDEA. no, not a logical response, i know, but it sure grosses me out!

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and still can't quite figure out how the FDA would ever approve this... or how they would regulate it all? Cows you can regulate, but humans in their own homes? Not sure how that would work... so whether you think it's gross or delicious, I'm not seeing it happen logistically. I don't think we have anything to worry about!
