Anniversary Getaway

This September will mark 10 years since we said, "I Do"...it's hard to believe it's been that long! But when I look down at the four little faces looking up at me, it does make sense :) .

So, to commemorate the 10 great years of marriage, we decided to take a trip to Door County, WI. My family went there once when I was in college and I had such good memories of it that I always wanted to go with Matt...so we finally did it!

We stayed at a B&B in Egg Harbor...it was okay. We decided we just aren't B&B type of people. We would rather not have to feel like we are checking in with someone when we are on vacation. We also could have done with less time listening to a couple men yack on and on at breakfast every morning. There were several times we would look at eachother out of the corners of our eyes just trying to figure out when we could stand up and leave without appearing rude. But, the place was clean and comfortable, so that was good!

Our first evening there, we just strolled around Egg Harbor checking out the little shops.
We stopped and ate some delicious gelato.
Then we ate dinner outside at a place called the Shipwreck Pub (or something like that). We were on our own and having so much fun!!
I forgot to mention that my sisters, Tami and Heidi watched our kids for us. It's always so nice when you can leave and know your kids are well taken care of...and they had a ball! While we were strolling around the town, my girls were with their Aunt Tami heading to the library! They look just a little excited don't you think?!
The next day after a long breakfast (ha ha), we took our bikes and went to Penninsula State Park and rode our bikes on some of the trails. It was so much fun. We packed a lunch and had it in a basket on the back of our bike and after stopping at a lighthouse,
we found this secluded beach and ate our lunch. It was gorgeous weather...about 72 degrees and sunny. We ate our sandwhiches and then we both just read our books on the quiet beach. It was so relaxing and peaceful.
That evening, we went to Wilson's in Ephraim. I love this little place...we ate here with my family and it was just as good as I remembered. Just an old hamburger and ice cream parlor.
I love a good burger and fries
They have such good ice cream! We split this HUGE and delicious ice cream sundae!!
 mmmm....
After dinner, we went to see an outdoor musical/play in Penninsula State Park. It was hillarious and we laughed a lot! So fun!
Meanwhile, Heidi and Tam were sending me texts with pictures of how my kids were doing. It was so nice because I could hear about their antics and see their little faces...I didn't get as lonesome for them!

Tami entitled this one "Where's Waldo?" ha ha! They were both in the corner because they had been fighting over a TinkerBell doll...I was relieved to hear that they were actually very good for Tami.
The next day, we drove up to the edge of the penninsula and then took our bikes on the ferry to Washington Island. Here we are on the ferry...all these self portraits are so cheesy!!
Our view of the island as we came across on the ferry
We biked and biked around this island and finally found this beach called School House Beach. It was made up of all these smooth stones. The water was so clear and it felt so good to just rest by the water for awhile.

On the way back, I accidentally took a picture of us before we were ready. I added this effect to it and it made us look like we were trying really hard for a cool Facebook profile picture! ha ha! Matt groaned, "I look like i"m trying to be Brad Pitt"...he he.
We went to a fish boil that night at the White Gull Inn and it was really good!
We had such a good time on our getaway and I'm so thankful we could do it!
I'm already looking forward to our 20th!!

I loved reading this post! Your last picture is too funny :) It's good to hear your B&B experience. If Darin and I ever go anywhere, we will maybe not stay at one b/c I don't think I would like old men talking during my breakfast either :)
I love that you and Matt could just eat your lunch by the beach and then sit by each other and read your own books ;) that sounds so great...does that mean we are old? I think it just means we have 4 kids and not too much time to read more than 3 pages in a book at one sitting :) So thankful you had a great trip!

I'm so glad to read this post, Bek and to see pictures. I've been wondering how your trip was. So glad you had a wonderful time! Then off to Kentucky Lake and now to Cousins weekend, I hear - you've been busy but it all sounds so nice!

Love you,
Aunt Pam

this looks SO wonderful, rebekah. i'm so happy you could do it!

jaret and i always want to like b&b's, too because it always seems so cozy and quaint, but if we have to interact with people for expected amounts of time, we don't like it either.

that facebook pic does make you both look pretty glamorous. :)

Such fun pictures and memories...I LOVE the picture of the two girls in the corner...not only would it be something you'd love to share on vacation with your husband, but I think it's equally funny Tami snapped the picture!

Door Co. is on our list as well...thanks for sharing & what a relaxing anniversary trip-food, bike rides & peace!
