Inspiring and Reminding Myself

With the joys of a new baby, has also come the less than joyful prospect of needing to lose some pounds again. ugh...the only thing that keeps me going sometimes is that I did this before. It can be discouraging to say the least. But as I'm sure anybody who has set foot out of their homes or surfed the web knows, this time of year you can't escape the messages of getting into shape! So, there are motivating pictures all over the place.

Here are just a couple pictures that I keep around to remind myself to keep at it...

So, here I go...well, as soon as my ankle is back in working order! I twisted it really badly a week ago and I am finally off the crutches. But still too much pain to do any vigorous exercise. Hopefully, it will heal quickly.

How about you guys? How do you stick with trying to lose weight/get in shape? I would love to hear your secrets.

Find what you love and works....isn't that profound? I just know I've tried getting in shape with running or walking many many times and always fall off the bandwagon, but joining the Y and swimming has worked, 1 year and 3 months and counting. I think it also helps that I pay for the membership...so I have to make it worth the money, and so force myself to go even when I feel a little sick. But all in all I look forward to my Mon/Fri morning swims at the Y. It's me time, while Titus has a blast in the kids room.
I'll be joining the weigh down group in 6 months in the mean time watch me grow!

Hmmm, I'm not sure I'm much help - I still have a gimp foot, just came out of the holidays and we've had kids sick so much I can't even get to the gym to ride a bike. I was just thinking after all these weeks off I'm going to be starting back at ground zero. So I'll be right there with you. : ) Pants are feeling tight. : ) It has made me feel appreciative for all the times in my life I have been able to keep up a workout schedule and enjoy my health. So right now I'm telling myself this is a season, not forever. : )

For me, it's often more about just how I feel after I exercise and that's worth it to get me there. Putting it on my schedule helps and just making it a part of my routine. And a huge thing is weight training of some sort - that will jump start weight loss more than anything for a woman, using some sort of strength training. In the winter, especially, I really like going to group classes as they motivate me to work out for a length and at an intensity I might not on my own (since winter makes me want to wear sweats and be a bum on the couch. : ) ). Not sure that is much help...

I can't say this would work for everyone, but here is how I TRY to keep the weight off and stay in shape.
If I need to loose a good 10-15 pounds (and this is always after a baby is born:)), I do two weeks of south beach diet. Meaning, its a tight ship around here. Its tough, but I stick to my guns and do it for two weeks(only). Meaning no carbs what so ever, no starches, and no fruits(as they are high in sugar). Now I realize fruits are good for you, and that is why I ONLY do this for two weeks (its strict the first two weeks, but after that you get to add back in those fruits and certain veggies like corn, potatoes). Every time I do this I loose anywhere from 6 lbs the first week to a total of 10 lbs by the end of week two. Once I do that I hit the road running....literally. I am not motivated when it comes to running, so I have to SIGN UP for a mini or some race that I PAID for so that I keep at running. Now mind you running is NOT my thing, and in fact, I take joint supplements because my knees are awful. But with a schedule and consitancy I can overcome the pain and it becomes enjoyable. Plus...I paid for the race and I am not wasting my money and not runnign so it keeps me going. I usually find a friend or sister to keep me accountable adn maybe even run with me on race day so I have yet another reason I can't back down:).
Not sure this is much help, but this is how I do it and it is working for me. Needless to say I don't do much in the winter as I am not a runner by nature so there is no way I will go out and freeze to death:). So come spring you will see me on the roads again in preperation for my September mini.

i was just lamenting to jaret that for a month and a half i've been eating less, and the scale was staring to come down, then seriously for no reason it started going up again, and i was even exercising more regularly-we finally got over sickness. so for 3 days i've eaten like a pig because i start to wonder what the point is. aren't i encouraging. he told me that eventually doing the right thing will pay off. i'm going to try to believe it and start trying again today. i really don't have any great advice. pierce is 21 months and i'm still trying to lose the last 7-8 pounds from that pregnancy. :(

I'm realizing if there are any two topics that get women TALKING - it's pregnancy/parenting and weight. :)

Devin and I recently watched a documentary on Netflix called Hungry for Change. Basically, the same thing everyone is saying right now - you have to make it a lifestyle change, diets don't work. So it talks a lot about refined/processed things, eating wholly and organically. Some stuff you have to take with a grain of salt because it's just not realistic (I think). But the overall concepts are good and coupled with exercise I would say is the best long-term solution for not just weight, but lifelong health.

I think the best thing I've found is something that I love...and finding accountability!

You are beautiful regardless Rebekah!! But I know its hard to feel that way sometimes carrying post baby weight. I dont really have alot of advice on this topic, Ive just found that eating low carb works well for me. Im not very good about excercising though...definitely need to improve on that. Good Luck!

This is random but I have also been told that if a woman is dehydrated, she will have an extremely hard time losing weight. So drinking water in that way is really important and that's something everyone can do. : )
