When my sister Heidi had a blog, she had started posting about Japan once in awhile. Now that she's quit blogging, I've decided to take up her idea. Since Japan is my birthplace, and where I lived several years of my childhood, it obviously has a fond place in my heart. There are so many funny quirks about the country and culture...well, it seems funny to Americans. So, here's the first. You think you've been on a packed train? Not until you've been in Japan during rush hour! I remember this...just when you think you can't fit anymore people in they push some more in. I love the way the Japanese people are very polite so they are very quietly pushing as hard as they can to get on the train. Then the train guys come and say politely, "I am going to push now!".
so, here's to a little cultural exposure!
enjoy!

That is so funny! Bekah and Aaron have to see this. It will make their rush hour commute seem roomy and dull.
love, Mom
That can't possibly be real.
This would not work for me. Tight space makes me very nervous!
That is so funny Rebekah! I would NOT like that at all - I don't like being touched.
Thanks for the cultural exposure!
jon, believe me, this is VERY real! I've been in this kind of situation myself in Japan...more than once. The funny thing is that to a Japanese person, this is not crazy...it's just rush hour.
Ahhh, the sweet mother-land...yes, brings back such cozy memories of our childhood.

I was laughing out loud!!! I don't know why it's never looked sooo funny to me before. It's probably because usually, I'd be inside getting stuffed in. :)
That was soooo hilarious!!! Thanks for posting and yes...it's crazy that it's really true.
oh my word. that is hysterical, rebekah. is it really like that? i think it's so funny that it appears that the suited men's job is soley to cram as many people onto the train as possible. :)
you're right sharlin! that is basically one of their job descriptions! isn't it great?! :D
okay, watching this video made me a little panicked at the thought of actually being on that train. I think I need to go lie down for a little bit. :)
Yep, I remember that being true. Funniest thing on the video is how they keep adding the suited men to get more "push power" and get more people in. Then as soon as one door is done - they run down to the next one and push there. It's almost like they can't wait to go push the people again. Great video, Bek! You find such fun videos.

That is hilarious!!!! Too funny. Korea's subways were similar, except for maybe not quite that crowded (especially around us; it's funny but occasionally we'd experience "racism" in that they would move away from us on the subway; one lady actually moved when we sat next to her).
It's the same deal where everyone rushes like crazy to get onto the train, without regards for anyone else. It was so surprising to me the first time because the Korean people are also known for their politeness. I have to say I've never seen the pushing guys before though. Hilarious! Keep sharing- I love it!
bekah, i laughed so hard that my sides hurt and i was holding on to the table so i wouldn't fall over! Thanks for hte laugh!
