Blooming

It seems like I've posted a lot lately about Darci. Obviously, it's not an indication of favoritism!! It's just that she's been doing things lately that make it feel like I'm watching a flower bloom. She is beginning to use more and more words...she's drawing pictures that are sometimes, daily improving in ability...she spends hours cutting, drawing, coloring, pasting and creating.

A few nights ago, as I was saying goodnight to her, she showed me her fingers and then said, "Mommy, tomorrow, you paint fingernails!" To some, that may have seemed like a non-event. But Darci has never made plans for the following day with me! Our conversations often feel like a script. We have the things we say at bedtime...the things we say when she comes home from preschool...the things we say in the morning, etc. But this was different from the script! She was making plans with me! It was a such a special moment!!

So, as we watch our little girl blossom and grow, here are some pictures of some of her recent creations! She's become quite the flower arranger. She started doing this about a month ago. When we would go outside to wait for the bus, she would pick a couple flowers and a leaf. She would put them together and take them with her to school. As the days passed, she began making more elaborate creations. She would work on them before and after school. So, I began taking pictures of them. I LOVE them!
Here is the first one I captured...not sure why she had the piece of packing foam in there.

She loves using hydrangea leaves as her backdrop

When we were going to bed one night, we found this little arrangement she had put on Josh's desk

I really liked this one...

Here it is opened up. She had gotten a bunch of tiny petals off of a baby rose and put them between the cosmos.

I love how she poked the flowers through the leaves. She made one that I didn't get a picture of that had about 10 mums poked into one of these leaves. She gave that one to Aunt Heidi.

then, one morning we went out and found that a frost had killed her hydrangea bush. She ran around to all her favorite plants and stood looking in dismay at the frost damage. Then we found one last rose and she improvised. I thought it was lovely!

Now that things are really dead, she's still improvising

two dry mums poked into this little grass tube

here's another dry arrangement

and my absolute favorite!! This little thing was tiny! She took some of those tiny baby

rose petals and stuck them into this little empty pod from day Lilly. then she poked it into a leaf and put the little green leaf on top. I thought it was simple and beautiful...but I'm biased!

I love you Doozer!

this just made me smile for you. I love how the Lord is showing you His love through her and her "blooming". I can imagine you were very excited the next day to paint her nails too :)

Wow, SO neat! I think you might have a "budding" artist on your hands! She already does waaaay better than me at flower arranging! Is she for hire?!

I agree with Jessica - this post made my heart smile for you both. :)

i think she's simply amazing. she's got talent and gifts just pouring out of her, and she doesn't have a clue.

I was tearing-up on this post. What a step in the right direction for her to be planning something for the next day! Wow...

I love how you are encouraging her in her creativity. That is so awesome!

The flower arrangements are beautiful!

I was loving the flowers! What talent! I can tell she has inherited your creativity!! Graham was in here looking and said, "Wow that girl has talent! How old is she?" I said about 6. He said, "And she can already do all that with flowers!!" We are quite impressed because we have NO creative ability in this house! What an amazing gift God has given you in this girl!!

I am so thrilled to watch Darci continue to blossom. She brought me one of her arrangements one day too. I wish I would have captured it with the camera. Some day you will have to do a post on how she watches " The Sound of Music". Flower arranging isn't her only talent.

God is so good! Just look how he hears and answers our prayers!

love you all,

Darci's proud Grandma
