At the end of our spring this year, Josh was studying a little about ancient Egypt. So, for a project, we decided to make a Nile River model. Here's Josh with the supplies.
The water for the river
We created the river bed out of oil in the potting soil. There's the Nile Delta.
Then we added grass seed along the edges of the river bed. We added some rocks to act as mountains.
Then we flooded the Nile
"Mom, this is so much better than how we usually do school!!"
"Look! Mom! It's a river!!"
This is about a week later after flooding the Nile every day.
Showing how the land along the Nile was lush because of the flooding.
Once again, so pumped about this kind of school work.
A couple weeks later!
All in all...a successful little project. I need to take the time to do more of these kind of things in school. :)
I should have taken a picture of how it ended up looking...pretty disgusting. It's a visual lesson in why they call it the"West Nile" virus...we had a miniature nile in our backyard where all the mosquitos were having a hay day....yuck! It finally got dumped! So, a couple lessons learned I guess!
