When it comes to your "things", are you high maintnance? I didn't really think I was until I started to think about this...I am realizing that I am quite a brand-name snob when it comes to some items. Being married to the man who could care less about that stuff, I am realizing even more how my upbringing has probably had something to do with this.
When it comes to groceries, I could care less about brand names. I will buy generic every time there is an option. Diapers and formula go the same. The only thing I will pay a little more for, is Tyson's chicken because it has no added hormones, etc. in the meat.
Clothes are pretty much the same. I like nice quality clothes, but I am finding you can get some pretty nice stuff at Target. :)
The problem with me is that I have an opinion when it comes to expensive items. Like cars...and fortunately for our marriage, Matt has come to agree with me on this one. (Probably all the lip service I've given on the subject). I can hardly bare the thought of ever putting money down to drive an American car. Terrible huh? I'll blame it on the fact that I am half Japanese and my Dad ingrained it in my head growing up that unless it was Japanese or German, it was no good. And not only do I want Japanese, I want Toyota. I don't have to have new...nope, these babies will go the distance. And it's not just because they are Japanese, I really do believe they are better cars and are a better buy. I told matt when we were looking for a new van that if I knew for sure that an American van would be as low maintnance as a Toyota, I'd be happy to get one.
I also have the same mental fix about electronics, cameras, sweepers, appliances, etc. Not that they have to be Japanese made...just that I have certain brands in my mind that are the best and others should be avoided. So, I have begun checking out Consumer Reports when we are purchasing new things to see if my prejudices are actually founded on any sort of truth. Sometimes I'm wrong...so that's good to know. But when it comes to cars...I was right. If you're going for a used van, Toyota and Honda were the "Sure Bet".
How about you? Are you loyal to certain brands for anything?
*(Added) Hey everyone, thanks for the comments.
I want to clarify that my opinion on cars is just an opinion...I'm not saying that anyone who drives an American made car is not smart or that all American cars are lemons. Just stating my mental bias.
Hope I haven't stepped on anyone's toes. :)

I am very much like you when it comes to grocery shopping, diapers, formula, ect...AND TYSON CHICKEN!! I cant prepare a dish with any other brand! Also "bed head hard head" hair spray I am pretty stuck up with :) I could really care less about clothing brands really. I will never by another vaccum other than a Dyson and no other knives for me except CUTCO :) Thats about it for me! Fun post!
i'm the same, bekah. have to have quality. don't care about the name so much, as long as it's quality. the thing is that so often quality does come with the name brand...
just gotta put a plug in for american autos! :) we have a 2000 chevy impala that has never been in the shop! That's 9 years of quality driving! and my friend drives the german vw jetta and it is literaly always in the shop with something wrong with it! i think part of it is knowing how to treat your vehicles right, change the oil on time, etc.
anyway, the only other items i have a hang-up on are doritos - there is no substitute!

It varies. I work for a American auto supplier and I wouldn't touch a domestic. Don't get me wrong, there are a few decent cars out there but overall, the finish, quality is better for Japanese cars. I'm not a fan of German cars just Japanese. I have a Toyota Corolla,235K, not one problem. The stuff we design for GM & Chrysler is terrible but that's the American management for you. You have valid point -- Japanese (Honda or Toyota) cannot go wrong and they will last forever. Do not give in! Your husband will thank you later in life.

Okay, since I'm married to a GM dealer I have to put my two cents in. :) Did you know that in China Buicks are the car to drive if you're somebody who's anybody? Seriously. All the big wigs want Buicks. If you're shopping for a minivan, then yes the imports have a great reputation and sell way more than domestic. But if it's cars or SUV's they're all the same. Of course this is my opinion. And last but not least, I think Consumer Reports are biased. :) This is all spoken in love of course and I don't care what you drive. :)
I am obsessed with all brand names when it comes to material possessions or luxury items as pretty much any of my friends can attest. I don't give a crap about what brand of food I buy and household items like shampoo or toilet paper. However I need expensive stuff when it comes to clothes, cars, golf, restaurants, vacations etc.
The old saying goes...drink Russian, drive German and dress Italian.
I drink Smirnoff Vodka, drive a BMW, and wear Aldo shoes, so I try to follow that saying as much as possible.
Also Rebekah..I know you are very pro-Japanese when it comes to cars, but if I remember correctly even Hank drives a Mercedes, at least when he is in the states.
So when it comes to cars..only German is acceptable.
Im a ketchup girl and only 1 brand will do...Heinz. Hunts makes me wanna barf and i about die when we eat out at a restaurant and they only have Hunts...ugh.
I love all the comments! So funny!
I have to say I am a namebrand shopper. This is due to the fact that I am VERY lazy when it comes to shopping. I enjoy shopping for anything, but like it only when it's easy and fast.
wow, I didn't realize how lazy I am.
I have to comment on this post, because I'm very very into cars and definitely do not think they are all created equal!
I will be shocked if any of my future car purchases will be American-made. In our family, the foreign cars are the ones that never have problems. Plus, I think they tend to look classier and higher quality. :)
This is a fun post!! We have driven a 92 Honda Accord, 99 Honda Accord and now a 2000 Oddysey! We love our Hondas!! If I had all the money in the world though, I would be driving some stylish ghastly expensive BMW. :)
Ashley Baner...I knew you wouldn't let me DOWN!! Girlfriend, Lord willing, you will get the BMW.
Acutally, I would get the Lexus LS460L instead of any Beamer. Go Japs!
